The Problem with Lighter Fluids
Petroleum-based fluids soak into porous charcoal and release toxic fumes that penetrate directly into your food. The "gas station" taste ruins everything.
Chimney Starter
This is the best tool. Fill it with KOM charcoal. Crumple 2-3 sheets of newspaper (or use natural cubes) underneath and light it. In 15 minutes, you have perfect glowing coals.
Natural Firestarters
Use cubes made of wood shavings and paraffin. They are cheap, burn clean, and are completely sufficient to light quality KOM charcoal quickly and without odor.
